Executive Platforms

Every year, Student Senate holds a General Election during the Spring Semester. During this election season, Student Body President/Vice President Tickets develop platforms and goals that they hope to accomplish for their Student Constituents through the Student Senate. These are promises that are made to the student body and they guide the work of each Student Senate Administration. Below you will find the platforms of the current administration:

Estabine/Dominic Administration Platforms 2024-2025

a. REC CENTER

  • Finalize implementation of Shake Smart (protein shake/snack bar) 
  • Free 2-hour parking in the front row of the Rec Center for all students (whether or not you have a campus parking pass)
  • Ensure that the front row of parking at the Rec Center remains available for students to park on basketball game days

b. OUTDOOR HANGOIUT SPACES

  • Renovate potter lake
  • Renovate potter lake
  • Updated outdoor seating
  • More outdoor workspaces
  • More lighting in poorly lit areas

c. PARKING

  • Payment option for parking tickets to be made by donating to the Campus Cupboard
  • Parking ticket warning system

 

a. IMPROVED TAILGATING

  • Continue working with KU Athletics to lower tent rental rates for student organizations or discounted tent rental rates for student organizations
  • Continue working with KU Athletics to create free tailgating areas outside the stadium

b. CAMPUS BAR

  • Rooftop of the Kansas Union or the old McClain's building
  • Create a fun and engaging community, on campus, space for students

c. EDUCATION BEYOND

  • Free Blue Books in the Student Senate Office
  • Free/affordable online books
  • Create a student seat on the KU Board of Trustees
  • Create a student seat on the Kansas Board of Regents

a. MENTAL HEALTH

  • Create a free minority students group therapy option
  • Program for when a family member dies or becomes dependent (accommodations, scholarships, etc.)

b. ROTC

  • College credit for military training

c. COMMUNITY BUILDING

  • Work with the Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) to revamp the Hawk Link program to deepen its programming
  • Mentorship program for international students

a. RECYCLING

  • Increasing information about recycling
  • Promote the use of used books

b. ENVIRONMENTALISM

  • Finalize and then continue, move out donation program in the dorms/campus housing
  • Increase native plants on campus
  • Planting more trees on campus
  • More water bottle-filling stations
  • Increase green spaces for student use
