Biography

Omowunmi Olaleye, BSc., MSW, began her career in accounting, gaining experience at Smith Ighodalo Adewale Odiachi (S.I.A.O) and Beckley Roberts & Co. in Lagos, Nigeria, before moving to the banking sector with Guaranty Trust Bank, where she rose to a supervisory role. Driven by a passion for humanitarian service, she earned her MSW from Troy University, Alabama, and built practice experience with Troy Group Home, East Central Mental Health, and the Alabama Department of Human Resources. She later founded Chance and Choice Support Initiative for Vulnerable Children in Nigeria, a nonprofit that provides counselling and support for children and families.

Omowunmi is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Kansas School of Social Welfare and a Graduate Research Assistant with the Centre for Public Partnerships and Research. Her research examines the link between childhood trauma and family dysfunction, with a focus on how family dynamics affect child development and long-term well-being. She aims to inform cross-national approaches and social policies that minimise the impact of family dysfunction and promote healthier outcomes for children.
