Biography —
Zijin (Jin) Wang is a distinguished pianist currently pursuing a Doctorate in Piano Performance and Pedagogy at the University of Kansas, where she studies under the guidance of Priscila Navarro. With a strong foundation in both performance and pedagogy, Jin brings a unique blend of artistry and academic insight to her craft.
Jin's musical journey began in China, where she studied piano under the mentorship of Hong Xu and Dahao Darryl Guo. She further attended the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, earning both a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. During her time at Illinois, she worked closely with notable instructors such as William Heiles, Timothy Ehlen, and Charlotte Mattax Moersch. Her quest for excellence led her to the Longy School of Music of Bard College, where she completed her Master of Music in
Piano Performance under the tutelage of Gila Goldstein. At Longy, Jin was also involved in research at the Music Cognition Lab, focusing on the intersections of music with dyslexia and early language development.
Jin has participated in prestigious festivals and music academies, including the Bershire High Peaks Music Festival, Beijing
International Music Festival and Academy and the North Coast Piano Festival. Recognized for her talent and dedication,
Jin has received numerous rewards, including first prize at the Artist of the Year Competition and third prize at the 9th Future Stars International Piano Competition, and the Best Bach Performance Competition. Her performances have graced venues
such as Swarthout Recital Hall, Pickman Hall, Smith Hall, Steinway Hall in Wuhan and Clark-Lindsey Village in Champaign-Urbana.
In addition to her performance career, Jin has extensive teaching experience. She currently served as a private piano instructor at City Strings & Piano, and has worked with children with special needs at the Island of HopeSpecial Education and Healing Center. Fluent in Mandarin and English, Jin’s diverse linguistic and cultural background enriches her approach to music. Her repertoire spans a wide range of composers and styles, from Bach and
Beethoven to Ravel and Prokofiev, reflecting her versatility and depth as a musician. With a passion for both performance and pedagogy, Jin Wang continues to inspire audiences and students alike with her exceptional talent and dedication to the art of piano.
