Shea Marney (Crimson and Blue)
Building a Campus that Never Sleeps: Hello everyone! My name is Shea Marney. I am a junior studying Political Science, Global & International Studies, French, and Intelligence & National Security. I have been involved in the Student Senate my entire college career. This experience has given me an in-depth perspective into the functions of the KU Student Senate as well as the body's relations with the KU student body. Saying this, I believe the Student Senate has strayed from the organization's path of being completely representative of the student body—so, we are campaigning to solve this issue. Our campaign stems from three goals: bettering campus life through increased university-wide celebrations and more late-night study spots, improving campus infrastructure through the creation of food plan scholarships and senate reformations, and improving campus safety through stabilizing the SafeRide program and advocating for increased student parking.Happy elections!
Mia Keene (Sunnyside)
I'm Mia Keene and I love KU. The office of Student Body President represents, to me, the opportunity to make meaningful improvements in the lives of all of my fellow Jayhawks, which is something I have been working to do since I was a freshman. If elected, I will proudly represent our university and advocate for the many things we do well, both internally to students and administrators, and externally to legislators and peer institutions. When I see places where KU can better serve students, like certain policies that are unfair or illogical, I work diligently and rationally to find solutions. I have spent my last two years on Student Senate building relationships and raising my institutional knowledge to be able to effectively communicate student needs to our administrators and challenge the status quo with creative ideas.I believe the key to real long-lasting change is intentionality. It is easy to campaign on flashy platforms and then fail to follow through once elected. It is harder to develop strategic initiatives that can be implemented seamlessly within the constantly evolving landscape of our university, but that is what I promise to do.As students, we all deserve to have access to the wealth of resources our school provides us with. I plan to promote university services and organizations with centralized communication and awareness campaigns. We should all be given a space to build and grow our personal relationships and communities. My coalition intends to throw inclusive events like Picnics at Potter and Booth Blockbuster movie nights. Student Senate has been under a dark cloud of politicization and self-obsession that has distracted from its purpose as a steward of the student body. It's time to get back on The Sunnyside.
Charlie Stephenson (Ad Astra)
My name is Charlie Stephenson and I am running to be your next Student Body President. I'm a junior here at KU majoring in finance and accounting. On campus I've served as the Student Senate Treasurer, where I've been involved in the fee and funding process to help many organizations around campus to receive the funding they need to serve students and strengthen our community. These experiences have given me a deep understanding of how student government decisions directly affect the daily lives of students. I've seen how important it is for students in leadership positions to effectively communicate and advocate responsibly on behalf of the student body. I believe strong communication between students, campus organizations, and University administration is essential to building a better KU experience. It would be an honor and a privilege to represent my fellow Jayhawks and work to strengthen the KU community. Thank you and Rock Chalk!

Vana Stark (Sunnyside)
I'm not running for Vice President because I love politics. I'm running because I care about institutions, and whether they actually work for the people within them. I believe student government should be a service organization, not a popularity contest. Most students don't follow much on Senate, and that's okay. They should not have to. However, what they should follow is whether parking makes sense, whether their concerns are heard, whether our safety policies are clear, and whether the university responds when something goes wrong. We exist to make university life easier to live and learn in. Over the past three years serving as an Off-Campus Senator, I have seen how often student concerns are less about intent and more about systems that are difficult to navigate and slow to respond. I aim to be simple with my approach, to be calm and collected, fair, and consistent. I value accountability, transparency, and professionalism. That means clear communication with students, respectful relationships with admin, and decisions based on evidence rather than personal alliances or pure emotion. As Vice President alongside Mia Keene and the Sunnyside Coalition, I want to help build a Senate that students can trust. One that follows through. One that treats every student regardless of major, background, or involvement, as someone worth representing. I cannot promise perfection. I also cannot claim to have every answer. I do promise to do the research and work required to find them. I promise diligence, honesty, and the willingness to do the visible and invisible work in the hopes to help make the system better.
Amara Ndubuisi (Crimson and Blue)
Building a Senate for the Student Body: Hello Everyone! My name is Amara Ndubuisi, and I am thrilled to be running as your vice presidential candidate for the University of Kansas Student Senate Spring 2026 Elections. This year I am a sophomore, majoring in psychology with a minor in criminal justice on the pre-law track through the universities LEAD program. There are so many aspects of leading the student body that I look forward to, and I'm so grateful to have the opportunity to possibly get a chance to share my ideas and take inspiration from you all as well. In my vision for the following year, I want the Student Senate itself to be better for the students it serves. As a senator for the past two years I have done my best to serve my constituents in the best way possible, but when the Senate body is not following the same model, it is hard to uphold the standards that our constitution says we abide by. I'm hoping to create more transparency, stray from scandal, and foster a Senate and administration that is integral and impartial in every way. Happy Elections!
Ava Garcia (Ad Astra)
Hi! My name is Ava Garcia and I'm a junior here at KU. I'm running for Student Senate because I care deeply about the the KU community and want to help make it a place where students feel heard, supported and connected to one another and our campus. During my time here at KU, I've had the chance chance to meet students from various backgrounds, majors and organizations. These experiences have helped me understand how valuable strong communication and collaboration are to creating a positive student experience. They have also shown me how important it is to have a wide range of student perspectives when decisions are being made that affect campus life. A main priority in Student Senate would be improving communication between KU students and administration. When students feel informed and that their ideas are being listened to it builds trust and encourages more involvement across campus. Strengthening that connection would allow students to feel more included in conversation that impact their daily life here at KU. I would be honored to represent my fellow students and help continue building a stronger KU community!

Asher Bowyer
Hey! My name is Asher Bowyer and I'm a freshman from Gardner, Kansas. I'm currently studying political science and law and society. I work at the Ambler Rec Center, but enjoy playing videogames in my free time. I won't bore you with my resume, but I will say I have past experience in leadership positions (NHS President, Student Council, and the Principal Advisory Council). Though these organizations, I was given the opportunity to make positive change in my community. For every Jayhawk, in every corner of campus, I’m ready to be your voice. But real change takes all of us. Together, we can make this campus better than it ever was! Every vote counts — can I count on yours?
Trent Blettner
I am running to increase transparency and accountability of the student senate. Many KU students have very little knowledge of what the senate is or what it does. I want to make it so that every KU student can easily find out information about the senate’s role and the accomplishments it makes every time it meets. This will make it more likely for students to care about the institution and get involved when they want something changed.I will also give a representation of the biological sciences in the senate. My experience is that I did 4 years of debate, was president of my high school's political club, and am currently an intern at the state capitol with the house minority leadership office.
Rome Hunt
I am a driven and service-oriented leader who believes student government should be rooted in action, accountability, and opportunity. As an on-campus Student Senator at KU, I’ve worked directly with students to understand their concerns and advocate for meaningful solutions that improve everyday campus life. I want to join (and continue serving in) Student Senate because I care deeply about ensuring every student feels represented, heard, and empowered. Whether it’s improving communication, expanding student engagement, or strengthening collaboration across campus, I’m committed to building a Senate that works for all students—not just a few.
Evan Martin (Sunnyside)
I’m a driven and involved student at the University of Kansas who cares deeply about making our campus stronger, more connected, and more responsive to students. I’m passionate about leadership, service, and standing up for what I believe in, but I also value listening first. I’ve been involved in student organizations that have helped me see both the challenges and opportunities within our campus community, and I want to bring those experiences into Student Senate.I want to join the Student Senate because I believe student voices deserve to be heard clearly and acted on effectively. Whether it’s improving campus engagement, supporting student organizations, or advocating for policies that reflect our values, I’m ready to work hard and collaborate with others to create real impact. I don’t just want to hold a position; I want to serve, lead with integrity, and help leave KU better than I found it.

My name is Maya Sahrawat and I am seeking a position on the student council to serve as a reliable voice for the student body. I want to represent KU student’s interests and contribute to the university’s community as a whole. This experience has solidified my desire to serve as a dedicated advocate for my peers, utilizing my personal drive and initiative to cultivate a supportive, inclusive, and thriving campus culture.
Noah Hastings
Hey! I'm Noah Hastings, and I'm studying business and theatre. I believe student government is important for making sure our tuition supports us. I want to help make the Senate feel like your friends on campus, and not mini-politicians. I'm hoping to go into the entertainment business, so I don't have any political ambition. My goal is to help!
Tomas Andreas
I am a Math major minoring in Economics at KU with a strong interest in governance and how institutional decisions shape student life. Having previously completed a degree at KU, I bring both academic experience and a long-term perspective on the student experience. I care deeply about transparency, thoughtful policy, and ensuring that student voices are meaningfully represented and considered in university decisions. I believe Student Senate works best when it prioritizes clear communication, responsible stewardship of resources, and constructive dialogue between students and administration. I am running because I value and cherish KU as an institution and want to contribute to a Senate that is focused, principled, and committed to strengthening our campus community.
Garrett Hll
I am a freshman in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences on a pre-med track, passionate about service, leadership, and advocating for student success. Throughout high school, I served six years as Student Council President and as FCCLA District D President, representing multiple schools and leading initiatives focused on service, leadership development, and student engagement. These experiences strengthened my ability to listen, collaborate, and responsibly represent diverse perspectives. At KU, I am involved with Delta Epsilon Mu, a pre-health fraternity, and continue to seek ways to serve others and strengthen the campus community. I am running for Student Senate to ensure first- and second-year students feel heard, supported, and connected during their transition to college. I am committed to thoughtful leadership, open communication, and working collaboratively to represent the interests of students within the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences.
Kate’Lynn Shaw
Kate’Lynn Shaw is a Freshman double-majoring in African and African American Studies and Ecology, Evolution and Organismal biology with a minor in African Languages. She serves as a member of the prestigious University of Kansas Debate Team and a committed volunteer to organizations across campus and the Lawrence area. Her political goals are predicated on her desire for the University of Kansas to be G.R.E.A.T—geniune, righteous, empowered, active and transparent. Her targeted projects include producing an interconnected relationship between the Student Senate and student-run organizations on campus, uplifting voices that are traditionally left out in Student Government discussions to ensure equitable representation in USG decisions and forefronting effective communication and relationships between the USG and broader student body.
Tim Sheplak
I am a student who values community, and communication, and I will make sure that everybody's voice is important. Being involved in the Student Senate can help me represent my peers, and give them a voice for their concerns. I am very motivated and I am open to change. I hope to strengthen our student community and also listen to everybody's voice when making impactful decisions.
Mason Hess (Crimson and Blue)
My name is Mason Hess, and I care about KU. That is the simplest explanation for why I am running for student senate. I am disgusted with the reports of corruption I have seen coming out of the current senate. I want to do anything I can to help this university I love. I would focus on issues that students actually care about like the recreation center, saferide, sustainability and the student experience. KU and the student senate should be forced to be more transparent about their decisions and investments to avoid corruption and be held accountable. On campus I am involved in the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, Sunrise movement, YDSA and the Rock Climbing Club. If you vote for me I will continue to fight for KU.
Savannah Cruz
My name is Savannah Cruz, and I am currently a sophomore studying Law and Society. I'm in the LEAD Program and plan to attend the KU School of Law. I would be honored to join the Student Senate because I am infatuated with the legislative process and would love to be involved in making KU a well-functioning institution, as well as a representative of the students who make this university exceptional and incomparable. I am currently interning at the Kansas State Capitol under a senator who has instilled in me a strong understanding of the weight of the legislative process and the high level of importance of listening to and advocating for their constituents. Thank you for your consideration, and I hope you will vote for me!
Yusuf Abdumalikov (Crimson and Blue)
My name is Yusuf Abdumalikov, and I am currently a freshman studying on the pre-med track. Over the course of my freshman year, I have been involved in many campus events, student organizations, and Senate meetings, and have discovered what it feels like to be an active member of the KU student body. After attending several meetings this year, I have seen firsthand how meaningful Senate policies can be in affecting the well-being of others. I want to ensure a supportive and inclusive environment is available to every student on campus, which is why I am interested in serving as a Student Senator. I wish to help represent the voices and needs of the KU student body, and serving in Senate would give me the opportunity to advocate for my peers and work toward making KU a greater community.

Ugo Oyefia (Crimson and Blue)
I’m a rising junior studying Sociology and i'm a McNair Scholar. I’m running for Student Senate because students deserve the a high level of serious, evidence-based work, of whom I think i can offer. I want to expand access to mental-health care, strengthen academic support and advising, and push for transparent budgeting that prioritizes affordability. I strongly believe KU should be a place where every student can focus on learning, not just surviving.
Jillian Opie (Crimson and Blue)
As a second-year College of Liberal Arts and Sciences senator, I have worked consistently to be an active, engaged, and reliable voice within our Student Senate. Throughout my term, I have contributed meaningfully to discussions, collaborated across coalitions, and prioritized thoughtful, solution-oriented leadership. Most notably, I authored constitutional revision legislation aimed at strengthening the structure, clarity, and long-term effectiveness of our governing documents. This work required careful research, open dialogue with fellow senators, and a commitment to institutional improvement over short-term recognition. As I seek reelection for a third term, I remain dedicated to transparent governance, student representation, and ensuring that our Senate continues to evolve in ways that better serve the entire College of Liberal Arts and Sciences community.
Cole Ungar (Crimson and Blue)
Hey there! My name is Cole Ungar. I’m majoring in English here at KU going into my junior year. I’m joining senate to make an impact through finance. Coming from a small town and a low-income background, I understand the financial and academic pressures many students face. I want to advocate for expanded resources, stronger mental health support, and policies that ensure every student—regardless of background—feels represented.College is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Esperança Francisca Monteiro Henson (Sunnyside)
Hello! My name is Esperança Francisca Monteiro Henson, a Student and University Senator currently serving as a representative of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Since my first day in the Student Senate, I have been committed to representing low-income, first-generation students like me, who are often overlooked by the rest of the student body. This desire to support my peers led to my main agenda since joining this organization: SafeRide. From day one, I have been dedicated to advocating for the return of a service that has protected students for almost 40 years and was wrongly defunded last academic year. I developed ballot referendums, joined committees, and became a voting member of Fee Review just to bring back SafeRide, and my efforts were successful. Now, I want to continue as a member of the Student Senate and continue fighting for what is best for all of us.

I hope to serve you all again for Senate next year.
Olivia Weber
I am a member of the Legal Education Accelerated Degree program here at KU, and the international law fraternity, Phi Alpha Delta. As an engaged and motivated student, academics have always been a priority for me, and I care about representing my peers and improving campus life. As a student who is responsible for financing her own education, I care deeply about how student fees and funding are used. I believe that accountability and responsible spending are life skills that are essential to the student senate, especially since decisions made by the body directly affect thousands of KU students. I am passionate about leadership, advocacy, and making sure students have a voice in decisions that affect them. If elected, I hope to be an advocate for the responsible use of resources and improve the KU student experience.
Finn Marien
I am a political science student here at KU. I have always been academically focused, and I feel that the Student Senate has not done a good job of accurately representing student interests and spending student fees wisely, such as defunding saferide. If I was in the Student Senate, I would ensure that the hard earned dollars that KU collects are spent in the best way for students, and not wasted. I believe that the student senate needs more accountability and responsible spending as these are both essential skills for adulthood. If I’m elected, I will advocate for KU to use its money in the best manner for students and to improve life here at KU.

I will be entering my senior year within the School of Architecture & Design as a 4th year M. Arch student. Throughout my time at KU, I have been involved in my school communities, have committed to my academics, and have embraced the student experience on campus. Adia Peck
I know what it’s like to juggle school, work, and staying involved, and I want to help make campus life better for everyone. Growing up in Salina, KS, I’ve learned the value of community and hard work, and I’m passionate about nonprofits, animals, and creating positive change. I’m a junior majoring in Business Management and Leadership, and I’ve taken on leadership roles that taught me how to listen, organize, and get things done. I want to bring that experience to Student Senate to be a voice for students balancing it all and to help create opportunities and resources that make campus life more enjoyable and accessible.

My name is Mason Wear, and I'm an Accounting major in the pre-law program. I'm also working on my Certificate in Insurance and Risk Management. I am involved in my community through various business clubs, the KU Marching Jayhawks, and more. This year, I served the Senate as a representative for the Community Development Fund and as a Business Senator. Serving in this role has strengthened my commitment to ensuring that business students feel heard, supported, and effectively represented. As I look toward the 2026–2027 academic year, I am committed to promoting transparency and upholding strong procedural standards within the Senate. Eric Garretson
Hey everyone! I'm Eric, and I'm a junior pursuing a major in accounting while also following the pre-law track. I have been serving as a student business senator on the finance council this past year, and I've really loved the experience. Because I'm pre-law, I'm fascinated by the rules and regulations we follow, alongside what tools are set in place to change or bypass those rules. Determining what funding we can allocate and to who is more of an enjoyable process than I initially thought; there are more interesting cases than I thought there would be, and there were many times I had to set my personal opinions aside to vote for what was right based on our purpose as student senate. I thoroughly enjoyed serving as a voice for the School of Business this year, and I'd love to continue serve, so please support my candidacy!
Adam Grose
I’m running for Student Senate to make sure the School of Business is strongly represented and that business students see real value and long-term opportunity from the tuition we invest in our education.Business students make up a major part of the KU community, and we deserve strong opportunities in return: expanded networking, better access to employers, and more resources that help students gain meaningful professional experience.KU should be opening doors for students by strengthening industry connections, expanding professional development programs, offering résumé-building resources, and thoroughly supporting students as they pursue internships and careers. As a transfer student, I bring perspective from outside KU. As Vice President and co-founder of the Jayhawk Business Transfers student organization, I’ve worked to build community and create opportunities for transfer students across campus, and I’m ready to represent the School of Business and advocate for our students in the University Student Senate.
Aryav Biyala (Ad Astra)

I currently serve as a First-Year Senator and am running to represent the School of Journalism in Student Senate. As an out-of-state student, I know what it’s like to arrive on campus and work to find community, resources, and opportunities. That perspective has shaped how I approach serving students and advocating for their needs.During my time as a First-Year Senator, I’ve worked to listen to student concerns and ensure their voices are part of important conversations that affect our campus. Serving in Student Senate has shown me how impactful strong student representation can be.As a journalism student, I believe in the responsibility to amplify voices that need to be heard as journalists work to do every day. I want to represent the School of Journalism by voicing the needs of our students, advocating for their concerns, and ensuring their perspectives are present in decisions that shape our campus.

KU. Our home. Prosperity, liberty, democracy, our way of life. But freedom doesn't come free. Look familiar? Scenes like this are happening throughout campus, right now! You could be next. That is, unless you make the most important decision of your life. Prove to yourself that you have the strength and the courage to be free. Join... the Jayhawks! Become part of an elite peacekeeping force! See exotic new lifeforms, and spread Managed Democracy throughout campus. Become a Hero. Become a Legend. Become a Jayhawk.
Sam Monthey
My name is Sam Monthey, I currently serve as the Student Senator representing the All Scholarship Hall Council, and I am running to be a Senator for the School of Engineering. I will be a junior next year majoring in Architectural Engineering with a minor in English, and I am also a part of the honors program. I have had an amazing time in Senate this year, and would like to continue to represent the student body and make decisions about bills and resolutions. If reelected, I plan to continue as a member of finance council, and hopefully serve on the block and line committees.
Jason Anderson
My name is Jason Anderson, and I am a first-year Electrical Engineering student at the University of Kansas. I am a dedicated student who believes leadership means listening, staying organized, and following through on commitments. Throughout my life, I have learned the importance of teamwork, responsibility, and representing others fairly.I want to join Student Senate because I genuinely care about improving the student experience at KU. I hope to be a strong voice for my peers, bring forward thoughtful ideas, and collaborate with others to address issues affecting our campus community. My goal is to help create an environment where every student feels heard, included, and motivated to succeed.
Zachary Lemke (Jayhawks Forward)
I am a junior in Mechanical Engineering and served as a Student Senate representative for the past two years. During that time, I’ve advocated for student organizations including Jayhawk Motorsports, Jayhawk Aero Design, and other engineering groups to ensure they are represented in Student Government. Over the past year, I served as Chair of the Recreation Services Advisory Board, where I worked with the Director of KU Recreation Services to address student concerns and improve accessibility within recreation facilities. I work as a Rec. Center Supervisor, where I see how recreation services support student health, community, and campus life. I’m running on a platform of fiscal responsibility within Student Senate. My goal is to prioritize funding for student events, organizations, and services while ensuring responsible budgeting. Student Government resources should be used efficiently and transparently so that more students directly benefit from the programs and services funded by their fees.
Elijah Gardner
Hello! My name is Eli Gardner, and I am a junior in Chemical Engineering with an emphasis on Environmental Engineering and a minor in Environmental Studies. I have had the privilege to serve as a representative for the school of engineering for the past several months after joining senate in the Fall my sophomore year. I am also currently serving as the Corresponding Secretary for the Zeta chapter of Theta Tau, the professional engineering fraternity with 92 members, and I am a member of Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honors society. I believe I would be a great representative due to my heavy involvement in the school of engineering and my previous experience as a senator. These prepare me with a diverse skillset to make sure that the school of engineering is heard. Furthermore, I am very environmentally focused and want to make significant sustainable change.
Maggie Reed
My name is Maggie Reed, and I am running to be your Engineering Senator for next year. My plan, if elected, is to improve the life of every student in the School of Engineering, whether by decreasing costs, improving conditions, or advocating on their behalf. I plan to accomplish this by working through shared governance and advocating for the people that I represent in my duties, whether that is the School of Engineering or KU at large. I am a member and officer of YDSA and KU Sunrise, two organizations who are trying to fight for the wellbeing of students on campus, whether that is by addressing the mold in the dorms, or addressing safety concerns left by buildings on campus. I am a current first-year aerospace major, looking to eventually get my master’s degree and continue working on spacecraft in the exploration of the stars.
Axel Bengoa (Ad Astra)
Lane Lamping
I currently serve as a First-Year Senator, and during my term I’ve seen what Student Senate does well and where it can improve. Many students feel disconnected from Senate or see it as inefficient, and I want to help change that.In the School of Engineering, we’re taught to look at systems, identify problems, and figure out how to improve them. I try to approach Senate the same way. If something isn’t working, whether it’s communication, accountability, or how we allocate resources, we should examine it and make it work better for students. My goal is to help build a Student Senate that is more open, and responsive to the student body. I want to focus on improving transparency, making Senate processes more efficient, and helping students better understand how our decisions are made. For more information about my campaign, follow @lane.ku on Instagram!Thank you, and Rock Chalk!!
Alexis Dominic (Ad Astra)
Hello! I'm Alexis Dominic, a Mechanical Engineering student from Overland Park, Kansas, and I am running to serve as a School of Engineering Senator! I've had the honor of serving in Student Senate for the last two years: first as a First-Year Senator and then representing the School of Engineering. In these roles, I have advocated for my peers, promoted inclusivity on campus, developed solutions to student concerns, and worked to ensure that student voices are represented in University discussions. I’m passionate about shaping a future where every student has access to the resources, opportunities, and connections they need to thrive. If elected, I will prioritize improving academic support, expanding career development opportunities, and ensuring your concerns are heard. Together, we can build a stronger, more inclusive community where students feel empowered to succeed. I’d be honored to have your support. Rock Chalk!

Jack Ritter (Crimson and Blue)
A two-time senator, Jack wants to continue his record of representing the voices of William Allen White Journalism and Mass Communication students at Student Senate. He covers KU Basketball and Football for 247sports, but he is perhaps more well-known for being a three-time TA for over 1,200 students in JMC 101 for Eric Thomas. He is also a former fraternity president, a Phi Kappa Phi honor society member, and a Special Olympics volunteer.
Blake Fenton (Crimson and Blue)
My name is Blake Fenton and I'm a sophomore with a major in Journalism and minor in History. My goal in running for student senator is to ensure all student organizations are fairly recognized, receive the funding necessary for their growth and success, and have their inalienable right to the Freedom of Speech adequately protected and and exercised without fear of censorship or exclusion by the University of Kansas or other student organizations.Through serving as House Manager on my fraternity's executive board, I deal with a variety of challenges each day. Whether it's issues with the fraternity house itself, resolving conflicts between our members and external powers, or simply listening to what changes our members would like to see with the house and its culture, I have been able to exercise and enhance my leadership skills in fighting for the interests of a group or cause larger than myself.
Nicholas Castro (Jayhawks Forward)
Im Nicholas Castro and I’ve been in senate for 2 years going into my junior year. I’m immensely invested in senate both as a personal affair as I attempt to represent my constituents, but also as a domestic force for change here upon the KU campus. There have been a multiplicative amount of instances where senate has been on the forefront of change, and it is my intention to represent the student body and my own school of journalism to the utmost degree that I can going forward into the forthcoming years.

Sammuel Hanson
I want to join Student Senate to ensure the School of Pharmacy’s best interests are represented throughout the university community. The OneKU initiative uniquely positions the School of Pharmacy for growth and greater collaboration with the rest of the university, creating opportunities to broaden and strengthen our profession. As these changes develop, it is important that pharmacy students have a voice to help guide the process. If elected, I will ensure my peers have opportunities to share their concerns, ideas, and priorities, and that those perspectives are accurately represented.

Finnegan harris
I was born and raised a Jayhawk here in Lawrence, Kansas. I then moved to Minnetonka, Minnesota, where I attended middle school and high school. I competed in wrestling and rock climbing during high school, and I also enjoy traveling to different places around the world and seeing new things. Some of my favorite places I've traveled to are Estonia, Chile, Costa Rica, and Spain. I'm now back home in Lawrence and wouldn't wanna be anywhere else. I'm a freshman majoring in criminal justice, and I plan on going into a law enforcement/investigative field after graduation. This field interests me because I want to help and serve my community to the best of my ability. I see and understand the value of community trust between law enforcement officers. I have a strong desire to protect my comunity espeiscally with so many members of law enforcement abusing their position.

Olivia Schmidt
I am a freshman double-majoring in Psychology and Social Work. My academic background has fueled a passion for understanding human needs and systemic change that extends far beyond the classroom. I am driven to assist those in underrepresented communities who are often lost within large institutions. I am running for Student Senate to ensure that every student, regardless of their background, has a direct line to have their voice heard. I am dedicated to communicating the needs of marginalized groups and bridging the gap in essential resources. My goal is to ensure all students have the materials and support necessary to lead a healthy, successful life. I don’t just want to represent students; I want to empower them.
Brice Beasley-Murray (Crimson and Blue)

Being a student senator for the last 2 years has provided me much insight and knowledge about the needs, wants, and concerns of the students at this university. It has bettered my understanding of students' views, as well as strengthened my passion for advocacy. Our student body is valuable and essential to make our university the best it can be. A true leader listens and learns from what others have to say. It becomes a priority to uphold needs and concerns to make the greatest impact possible. Sujan Shilpakar
I am an international graduate student at the University of Kansas in PhD in School of Architecture and Design. My journey to KU required navigating visa processes, funding uncertainties, and adapting to a new academic and social environment, experiences many international graduate students share.I want to join Student Senate because I understand how policy decisions directly affect our funding security, healthcare access, professional development, and sense of belonging. I have already supported peers by sharing funding resources, clarifying administrative processes, and connecting students with campus offices. Through Senate, I want to strengthen transparency in funding allocations, advocate for clearer communication around policy changes, and promote initiatives that support international scholars’ academic and personal wellbeing.I believe representation should be practical and results oriented. I will listen carefully, communicate clearly, and work collaboratively to ensure international graduate students have a strong, informed, and consistent voice in university decision-making.
SNIGDHA BARDHAN

Hugo Santo (Sunnyside)
I am a junior finance student born and raised in Brazil, a member of KU Honors Society, treasurer of KU Gamemakers, and a Part-Time Building Manager at the Memorial Union. I am a frequent spectator of the senate meetings and am up to date on their activities, but as I engage with the student body, I realize how big a gap there is between what happens in the university and what comes to the common Jayhawk’s attention. Just like it has been happening with academic research, many of senate’s clauses and decisions either have a technical vocabulary or merely fails to go mainstream and reach larger audiences. This lack of transparency concerns me, and I have it as my biggest goal to make senate more accessible for those who don’t have time or interest in thoroughly engaging with the terminology and context of the decisions made on the chamber.
Luis Francisco Esqueda Bañuelos
I’m an international student who was born in Guadalajara, Mexico, and moved to the United States in fourth grade. Growing up bilingual and navigating two cultures has shaped how I listen, communicate, and advocate for others. I want to continue being in Student Senate because I know how important it is for students from all backgrounds to feel represented and supported. KU has given me opportunities that changed my life, and I want to give back by helping improve resources, strengthening the community, and making sure every student feels seen and valued.

Marissa Tenorio (Independent)
My name is Marissa Tenorio. I am a 26 year old student veteran from Texas pursuing a degree in Public Administration with a minor in Urban Planning. As a nontraditional student over the age of 24 and a veteran whose education has included service related transitions, I understand how higher education systems do not always reflect the realities of students with complex paths. Many nontraditional students balance prior careers, financial independence, family responsibilities, or distance from home while completing their degrees. I am running for Student Senate to ensure our voices are meaningfully represented in university decision making. I am committed to improving communication, accessibility, and institutional transparency so that students navigating nontraditional journeys feel supported and heard.
Nicholas Baziotis
As a 23-year old graduate student working full time in a hospital as an administrator, I understand the importance of being able to both connect with a community and allocate funding properly. In my eyes, having the opportunity to be a voice for students makes me feel better about seeing both groups and individuals in need. In my undergrad, I took the same steps through philanthropy, organizing both large and small school or organization events, with and without outside funding. One of my largest questions when I was living on campus in my undergrad was: "Why am I paying so much, and yet my experience has been the same for the entire time". I was not seeing the differences being made with the fees that I was paying. Barely any clubs were being created, services were still sub par, and opportunities for student's seemed minimal.
Dylan King
My name is Dylan King, and I am a non-traditional student who is working as an EMT and finishing paramedic school while completing my studies at KU. As a former student senator at the University of Central Oklahoma, I hope to use my previous experience in student government to help me give back to and improve KU, a place that has made such a difference in my life and education.
Antonique' K. Flemons (Ad Astra)
My name is Antonique’ Flemons, and I currently hold one of two non-traditional seats in the Student Senate. Over the past year, I’ve served as an active and engaged member, working to create space for the nontraditional student experience. From starting new initiatives and fostering meaningful conversations to drawing from real-life experiences that represent our community, I’ve sought to make a lasting, positive impact on the student body.Continuing in this role would allow me to build on that foundation. My long-standing passion for advocacy, civil rights, and policy drives me to serve and uplift others. I look forward to continuing to listen, represent, and advocate as your non-traditional student senator.

Shawn Lawson (Crimson and Blue)
Hey everybody! My name is Shawn Lawson, I have been a member of the student senate for three years now, and would be honored to serve you all for a fourth year. I am a Philosophy and Political Science major on a pre law track. During my time in senate I have been a member of the Finance Council, and this year I served as the council's Vice Chair, as well as serving as the chair of the Transit Commission. Making sure that students can track where and how their money is being spent is very important to me, especially in a time of great financial stress like those we are currently in. Rock chalk!
Victoria Hunter
I served as a student senator this year and I wrote a bill to ask the elections commission to investigate more democratic ways for student senate elections to be done like rank choice or approval voting. I’m also serving on line and block funding this year and am trying to fund important services like SafeRide and Watkins. I served on a student code review committee where we tried to protect the rights of students at the university. I’m hoping in the next year that we can follow up with these changes for elections to give students more choices to allow more third party coalitions without people “wasting” their votes. I will also make sure that we continue to keep funding groups without going into a budget crisis. We should make it easier for students to engage with the student senate in terms of ballot initiatives and finding information.
Michelle Blackburn
My name is Michelle Blackburn, and I am a sophomore majoring in political science and communication studies on the pre-law track. Serving two terms in the student senate, I have noticed that there is a lack of first-generation representation within the legislative body. As a first-generation college student who is working my way through college, I want my money paid through the Required Student Fee to be allocated towards programs that actually help students, like SafeRide, Legal Services for Students, and Watkins. If elected, I will work to increase transparency and accessibility within the student senate and represent those often forgotten about.

Domonique Taylor
I’m Domonique Taylor, a junior studying finance in the school of business. I have always had a passion to share my ideas and thoughts with my peers. Like the reframing of the dining plans or possibly investing in building a KU store with produce. My thoughts have been consistent, but I haven’t taken the step to move beyond just words. I find myself discussing the ending of the safe ride program. This was a program I thought set us apart from other schools. I used this to get home from work but also many students used it for late-night studying as well as to avoid drinking and driving. I spoke with one of the drivers before it ended and he informed me that most would be losing their jobs. In my last year here, I want to leave a legacy that improves the well-being for the students.

I believe growth is more important than perfection. My first semester in college was not what I expected, but I learned to be accountable, rebuilt my life, and improved my GPA while remaining actively involved in college life. I learned a lot about resilience, self-discipline, and the value of support systems that really work.I want to run for Student Senate because students need representatives who have been through struggle and success, and I believe I can make a difference in the life of the university by creating a more connected, transparent, and supporting community, especially in academics, housing, and personal growth. I do not run for a title; I run to advocate, to listen, and to ensure that students are at the helm of every decision. Leadership is service, and I am ready to serve with integrity, passion, and accountability.

Eduardo Paredes
My name is Eduardo Paredes, and I am a Sophomore majoring in Criminal Justice and Law & Society. I am running again to be the Scholarship Hall senator. I am very dedicated when it comes to being in this senate. I grew so much experience being a senator this year that I want to continue to be a part of this group that can make change for the better for the student body. I am passionate for advocating for any problem or issue that anyone may have. I am interested in continue to help with Student Rights and Affairs Committee and helping revising the student code for the better of the school. For this upcoming year, my plan for the Senate is to be more involved with Fee Review, Advisory Boards, etc. I am good at long debates. :) I hope to get your vote. :)
