Student Councils
Within the University of Kansas Student Senate, there are three Student Councils that serve as the lower bodies of the Legislative Branch. Each legislative cycle begins with a series of Student Council meetings, in which a bill passes in two Student Councils before moving to a final vote in the Students' Assembly. The three Student Councils are Finance, Community Affairs, and Student Rights & Affairs. Their officers are listed below.
Attendance in a Student Council is required for all Student Senators, but other students at KU can also speak at and vote within a Student Council. Voting rights are guaranteed at the first meeting of a semester for non-Senators. If a student attends two consecutive meetings of a Student Council, they will also gain voting rights for that academic year.

Student Executive Council
The Student Executive Council, or StudEx, meets once per legislative cycle and is charged with approving the schedule and agenda for Students' Assembly, tracking attendance of Student Senate members, and creating compromises between conflicting amendments passed by the Student Councils. StudEx may be called into session during breaks in the academic year, when the full Legislative Branch is not meeting, to address time-sensitive issues.
