Jayhawk Junk

Our Mission

American universities have a serious waste problem. The average college student produces a whopping 640 pounds of trash annually, the majority of which accumulates at the end of the year during move-out. For the University of Kansas, that estimate comes out to:

17,920,000 lbs of trash

Our solution: Jayhawk Junk. This event recycles and repurposes common student items that are thrown out during the move-out process.

You got it; we’ll take it.

We will accept almost any item, with common items being mini fridges, microwaves, couches, rugs, and other common dorm room items. Unless otherwise noted by someone at the event, bring anything you don't plan on keeping!

Based on the different colored areas, a drop-off zone will be centered around those buildings. There will be signs during the days of the event to help guide students in the right direction.

All the items we receive will be thoroughly cleaned and stored during the summer. During the start of next semester, we will hold an event that will sell all the items at a reduced cost to students and the Lawrence community. Our goal is to provide low-cost items while also raising money for causes that will support the university.

There will be updates on this soon!
