Writing a Bill
Download the Bill Draft Template and fill in the appropriate spaces for the Author of the legislation -- YOU!; any sponsors you may have for the legislation, sponsors are any senators who support your bill and have given you express permission to list them as sponsors on your bill, then you begin to write the body of the bill. A bill should contain several WHEREAS clauses that indicate what the bill is for. Traditionally the first WHEREAS clauses contain statements from the SSRR Preamble which relate to your bill. The following WHEREAS clauses should indicate what the student senate funding will be going towards. Finally, the last clause in the bill is the THEREFORE BE IT ENACTED clause where you state what you are requesting from the Student Senate--an action, money, etc. At the bottom include specific information on any monetary needs. THere is a sample bill linked to this document as well as a blank bill draft so you can begin writing your own legilation! Good luck!
